In Memoriam “Ark” Theatre

Teatr Osmiego Dnia – Artus

The title is written in both Polish and Hungarian since this spectacular street theatre is a Hungarian-Polish co-production. In fact, the performance is a revival of a since-longer-existing production, as one of the world's longest existing alternative theatre company is attending us: The Theatre of the Eighth Sun. Called by the critiques as the Rolling Stones of theatre history. Founded in Poznan in 1964, Eugenio Barba, a master of theatre history praised them like this: "They were mavericks of the '60s and '70s in Poland, became emigrant during the Jaruzelski-era, only to create now, after the fall of the iron curtain, after returning to their home, as dissidents in their home in the 21st century."

After traveling the world, the Teatr Osmiego Dnia meets up with the young actors of Artus in Nagyharsány in July, to re-assemble the production in order to open the Ördögkatlan Festival with it on the night of 2nd August 2016.

The "Bárka-Arka" production is not an accident: us, Ördögkatlan-organizers, many of them ex-"Ark" Theatre employees, would like to commemorate the once-existing "Ark" Theatre, which was founded 20 years ago. When we read about this performance, we cannot not think of the "Ark" Theatre, which used to be the home of many, both players and spectators, not even so long ago.
