Ferenc Juhász: The Boy Who Into a Deer

Illyés Gyula Hungarian National Theatre of Berehove

A broken mother, aged in pain is waiting for her son in the old, safe family house. But the boy is on a great journey, he wants to enter the gate of secrets, because he hopes to find the meaning, the truth of his existence. His mother is trying to allure him with old memories, well known scents, tastes, dances, tales, and the summoning of the dead father, but the boy cannot return. He seeks the knowledge of himself, but it is only possible, if he forgets his own face, if he “turns into a deer”.
Left one world by choice, pushed out from the other – the boy arrives lonely and bare to the gate of secrets, which is the gate of death. This is the only way to meet his mother again.
