The Tiger Lillies (GB)

,,The trio of the castrated criminal anarchist brechtian blues” – maybe this is the shortest way to characterize the undefinable, theatrical world of the Tiger Lillies. The songs of the band reach the deepest level of England-life: they are stories of prostitutes, people addicted to drugs, thiefs, failed ones, sung beautifully, as if they talked about angels. Their music mix opera and gipsy melodies altogether surprisingly, but the quality that makes them very different from any others, is the amazing emotional introspection and rough passion of their performance.
As the band is impossible to define into straight type of music, they never became commercially successful or well-known in wide spectrum. They describe themselves as the ’band for famous people’, because the fans of them include Marilyn Manson, Mel Brooks, Barry Humphries, Terry Gilliam or Matt Groening from the Simpsons. These people have their ’craziness’ and radical self in common.
