Ibolya Oláh: Ibolyántúl

Ibolya Oláh singer accompanied on piano by Péter Furák

Concert and theatrical evening, a personal “conversation” with the listener-spectator; quiet self-disclosure by the means of songs and important events of the singer’s life.

Ibolya “tore” in the Hungarian rock-pop world, in the cultural life, which was overwhelming and divisive at the same time. She had both fanatic fans and loud discouragers, her personal life was featured in the media but also the top artists of her profession wrote great songs for her and to her (among others: Presser, Geszti, Novák, Iván Szenes, etc.).

Ibolya wanted something else: to conceptualize, to understand the world swirling around her and communicate her own bold and succinct thoughts through her own songs. She has things to talk about, the fate of many is her life.

On this concert theatrical evening, she “reports” about her childhood, her roots, the institute, the friendship, loves, the journey, the failures, the successes, the fears, the dreams, while taking full responsibility for her self. The songs, if it even possible, bring even deeper, “beyond Ibolya” (title of the concert), during the confession evening.

The only musical instrument, the “know-it-all” piano enables the spectators to attend to the thoughts communicated by the music and lyrics fully. This is also why the scenery is minimal, the costume, the lighting, the video projection all serve the “personal conversation”.

The songs performed on the concert are all own old and new songs of the singer, they are orchestrated to piano. What is more, there are going to be a few “guest songs” which reinforce the fundamental idea of the evening: Gypsy tunes, ballads from Kurt Weill and Bertold Brecht, songs from role models such as Ágnes Kamondy, Klári Katona and Kati Kovács, etc.
